Making Tamales

The greatest thing about living somewhere new is learning how to do something new!! So to make the most of being in Las Cruces, New Mexico I decided I need to learn some local cooking skills. I decided to provide my own teacher and find a couple of classmates to learn with.  So after getting Sister Bybee and Sister Young rounded up to learn with, I asked Sister Delplane to teach us how to make TAMALES.  I went with her to buy the groceries on monday and we made them on wednesday. Let me tell you I learned new things just from shopping with her.

FINALLY FINISHED A QUILT PROJECT

After being in the new town and in the new house for umm  several months. I had a reason to make me work on some quilts.. For my sister who has patiently waited.... and waited, and for my nephew and his new wife who didn't have to wait and wait. It was fun to get sewing again. I love this strip quilt!!

IF I COULD WEAR PRICETAGS!!

I HAVE SAID FOR YEARS I WOULD LOVE TO WEAR PRICETAGS AROUND, BIG ONES THAT TELLS THE PRICE SO EVERYONE WOULD KNOW WHAT A DEAL I GOT!!! The white sweater I remade taking about 4-6 " off each side and the arms. Who would of thought to redo sweaters. Thanks to the wonderful blogs I had looked at it gave me inspiration!!

some of the items I have shown are thing I picked up last year in colorado thrift stores or some is from New mexico thrift stores. Mixing it together to make my ECLECTIC wardrobe. I took pictures of the shoes while I was out running around. Then took them off of course to be inside the house..

Remaking more clothes.......

I have definatley been remaking more clothes!!! This skirt I redid the top to make smaller for me.. the tank top sz XXL remade, I took 4 inches off each side. ...

Arent those the greatest leather boots!!! they dont totally match the outfit but close enough.. Next time I will different color nylons??

Dressing up a tshirt...............

ok I am posting twice. With lots of people out there remaking tshirts etc.. Here is my version of how I dress up a tshirt.. no sew version.. just add lots of accessories...

How I REMAKE a skirt

After losing weight... I have given away several different wardrobes worth of clothes. Some I just have loved. I finally came to my senses and thought wait a minute Maybe I can save some of these. So I Came up with a cheaters way of downsizing my skirts. I wish I would of thought of this alot sooner.. Saving me favorite skirts, and money. 1- Cut off the top waist band and sides to the size you want the skirt. I make them all have elastic to make it fast and easy.
2- Measure a piece of elastic the size of your waist and then take off a couple of inches. You will still end up with more elastic than you need but it works. Put in right on the unfinished edge and stretch and sew around the edge with a zig zag stitch... This wont show once you are done.

3- When you come to the end overlap just about a 1". Remeber this is a cheaters way so if its a little more or a little less than dont stress... (be happy)...

4- This is the last step fold over and sew on the bottom edge with a straight stitch. WARNING if you are a perfectionist Im sure you just gasped, This may not be the method for you!!! But for me who loves to shop thrift stores and likes to have lots of choices to wear this is perfect

Dreaming of Sewing......

I am in a Rental still and my sewing machine in storage.. what was I thinking.. I thought my time would be focussed on Finding a home. Well found a new home and now am waiting for the closing.. If anyone has any fun sewing links that I could dream about attach them .. I get to live vicariously through all of you .. I have been seriously blog hopping..Would love some new finds.. sewing, quilting, decorating..

Finally in a new state.

ohh I can say Im in a new state of mind as well as a new state.. I am going to do some major attitude adjustment soon as I have a good spell of resentment and anger.. Ok maybe its not that bad.. We moved to las Cruces New mexico last weekend after floating around for 3 weeks after our home sold. It takes a little bit for reality to settle in. I now wonder how this whirlwind happened so quickly.. So after a 10 day sale on our home we closed 3 weeks later and here I am not able to get to anything to quilt or work on. ITs all in the rentals garage.. So My posts will be slim for the next few months til I get into a home.

black/ white/ red block

March is off to a good start.. hopefully will finish a few quilts before Spring break ... wanting to do some major quilting... if my blog hopping would let me take a break so I could quilt. hmmmm so many blogs.. not enough time to quilt...

Folk Art Quilt

This Quilt took wayyyyy to long to finish.. working on the applique here and there. It is one of my favorites and thought I'd share it.. It was a block a month program and they supplied the fabrics... which was good cause I wouldnt of picked the fabric choices myself...but absolutely loved working with such a wide variety in one quilt.. I think it came together great ... just absolutely a fun quilt and it makes me happy just to think of all the long hours it took making it.. Most of my projects are fast and easy.. so this was a little bit more of a challenge, which I should do every once in awhile.

STASH

My son took a picture of my stash.. looks like it could use a little cleaning... good job for another day. I think its fun to see everyone elses stash thought I'd share mine. One is just my flannels and the other is my regular cottons. I love to make flannel blankets to give away for charity, to give to my kids, and to snuggle under while watching tv.. I love my cupboards from home depot.. I especially love that they close..

More finished projects off the pile

First are some pillow cases.. nothing hard..But ohhh so satisfying to get them finished. 13 in all for gifts for Missionaries. 2nd a fleece blanket that i wanted to try with the little tied bows Easy and ready to give away. My pile is shrinking.. slowly and not fast enough..

Unfinished Project exchange

Finished project ...yeahh

This is my charity tied quilt... nothing major but its with my flannel scraps and its gonna keep someone warm.. and best of all its off my WIP pile... I got several small things done this month.. yahooo...

WEll I finished my block from Bunny Hill just in time... I like the rick rack handle..... Alittle bit crazy.. and a little bit fun... just like I like it.( and not ironed.. oops). I want to find a tiny button carrot nose..

One project finished

One finished only a hundred thousand to gooooooooooo..... This cute little quilt was inspired after seeing what my friend kristen was going to make... hmmm it has taken me 2 1/2 years to finish it. I think hers is still in the working on pile.. Maybe this will inspire her....
